February 25, 2016 (Carlsbad, CA) – Mikroscan Technologies, maker of brightfield live telepathology and whole slide imaging systems, announces the release of the SL5, the most comprehensive real time telepathology and whole slide imaging solution for use in anatomic pathology applications. The telepathology market continues to grow and the SL5 represents a highly configurable and cost effective solution for a telepathology market BCC Research expects to grow to $4.5 billion by 2018.
The SL5 continues Mikroscan’s development of desktop telepathology solutions. Its dual mode design combines the flexibility of a remotely controlled robotic microscope and a fast whole slide digital pathology system.
As with previous Mikroscan systems, users interact with the actual glass slide from a distance and provide on-demand pathology whenever and wherever it is needed. The inclusion of five objectives ranging in magnification from 2X to 40X permits users to look at specimens in their true magnification, preserving detail. Complete remote control of X, Y and Z, objective magnification selection and contrast adjustments is included to further enhance the solution’s live capabilities. The live system also contains the new ‘Snap-Shot’ tool to view, capture and store images for further image analysis or reports and ‘Z-Snap’ tool to collect and store real time through focus regions of interest such as those found in cytopathology.
The SL5 is the fastest and most compact imaging device in its class, fits easily onto a desktop and requires minimal IT interface and user training. It is the cost-effective choice for pathologists who require an entry level live telepathology and whole slide imaging solution.
Gary W. Pace Ph.D., Mikroscan’s Chairman and President commented, “We are very excited with the release of our SL5. In fact, it is the most flexible, compact and affordable precision telepathology system on the market today. The SL5 dramatically improves system performance and creates a new class of entry level, highly configurable and extremely rapid real time and whole slide imagers. These imagers provide a solution for the growing need for out of the box desktop-based solutions that addresses multiple applications.”
