Pathologists Share Glass or Digital Slides and Metadata to Deliver Pathology Services Globally
March 15, 2016 (Carlsbad, CA) Mikroscan Technologies, Inc., a pioneer in desktop real-time brightfield microscopy and whole-slide imaging solutions for telepathology applications, has partnered with XIFIN, Inc., the healthcare cloud computing company revolutionizing the business of healthcare diagnosis from patient to payment, to meet the growing demand for digital pathology solutions*.
Mikroscan is combining its SL5 dual-mode real-time microscopy and whole-slide imaging instrument with XIFIN’s globe-spanning physician collaboration network, XIFIN ProNet, to further help pathologists collaborate, consult, and communicate with other pathologists and providers anywhere in the world, without being bound by the geographical limitations of physical glass slides.
The partnership supports the exchange and management of medical images, clinical data, and other patient encounter information, allowing multi-disciplinary teams (including radiology, pathology, and oncology) to coordinate care.
Mikroscan Chairman Gary W. Pace, PhD., commented, “Our partnership with XIFIN expands pathologists’ reach by providing image content for XIFIN’s ProNet consultation network, facilitating multiple opinions for complex cases that may require geographically remote expert consultation. This partnership will help healthcare providers distribute much needed access to medical care in even in the most remote regions of the globe.”
Lâle White, CEO of XIFIN, stated, “Working with Mikroscan enables us to combine our respective strengths and expertise to deliver high-performance pathology and physician collaboration solutions to some of the world’s leading healthcare organizations and labs. This is one of several key applications we have recently integrated into the XIFIN HEO platform to meet the evolving needs of pathologists to optimize the delivery and outcome of healthcare.”
Clinicians and experts around the world can instantly connect with pathologists for real-time consultations utilizing Mikroscan’s SL5 and Live-Q™ real-time telepathology software. XIFIN ProNet, for its part, enables the exchange and management of key healthcare images, data, and reports to aggregate patient and diagnostic information; helps bridge image silos across and between enterprises; and facilitates clinical evaluation, consultation, and treatment planning.
*Digital pathology is currently for research use only, and is not intended for use in diagnostic procedures.
