Mikroscan funding round

Investors include ResMed founder Peter Farrell and Prairie Ventures

August 10, 2015 (Carlsbad, CA) – Mikroscan Technologies, maker of brightfield remote telemicroscopy systems, has closed on $3M in additional funding from a group of private investors including Peter Farrell, chairman and founder of ResMed (NYSE: RMD), Gary Pace a life sciences serial entrepreneur and Prairie Ventures.

Mikroscan initially closed on $3.1M in funding led by Farrell, which included $1.48M for debt conversion and $1.6M in new funding for operating purposes. This additional $3M close was an expansion of Mikroscan’s Series A preferred stock investment round.

Mikroscan has also seen additions to its Board of Directors, including Rodney S. Markin, MD PhD, Chief Technology Officer, Associate Vice Chancellor of Business Development and Professor of Pathology & Microbiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Vyomesh I. Joshi, retired from Hewlett-Packard Company as Executive Vice President, Imaging and Printing Group. They join Peter Farrell, Gary Pace and Greg Gruzdowich and help position the company with a strong leadership team.

The investments come as part of Mikroscan’s growing presence in telemicroscopy. Mikroscan supports anatomic pathologists through a variety of products, including their D2 remote brightfield microscope, Live-Q, which allows pathologists to remotely control the D2 microscope and view and interact in real time with time-critical specimens; Q-Skan™, which enables whole slide specimen acquisition, digitization and archival; and Qumulus™, which permits image archival, management and viewing.

“We are excited to see further investment in Mikroscan, which will allow the company to expand its sales and marketing efforts as well as broaden and accelerate our product development efforts in the pathology markets we serve,” said CEO Greg Gruzdowich. “We look forward to offering outstanding remote telemicroscopy solutions that expand pathologists’ ability to share their skills.”
