Mikroscan Appoints Martin Stuart

March 28, 2016 (Carlsbad, CA) Mikroscan Technologies, maker of brightfield live telepathology and whole-slide imaging systems, has announced the appointment of Martin Stuart, PhD, as president.

Dr. Stuart is a business leader who brings 30 years of senior executive experience in worldwide sales, marketing operations, and organizational development to Mikroscan. He has a proven track record of building global business in software, contract research services, and medical devices for the life science and healthcare markets, including extensive experience in the digital pathology and whole-slide imaging sector.

“Martin is a successful entrepreneur with tremendous experience in the telepathology and whole-slide imaging industry, which will be a great strength for the company as he charts the future of our desktop telepathology solution,” stated Mikroscan Chairman Gary W. Pace, PhD.  “I feel strongly that Martin’s leadership experience, coupled with his strategic thinking and proven ability to deliver results, make him the right person to execute our strategic priorities and drive sustainable growth.”

The appointment of Dr. Stuart comes at a time of great opportunity in the growing telepathology market, coinciding with the need for a leader who can grow the Mikroscan team and expand the reach of its solution, which most recently features the new dual-mode SL5 live telepathology and whole-slide imaging system.

“I have had the chance to spend the last couple of months engaging with Mikroscan’s board of directors, management team, and employees, and feel that we are well-positioned to broaden our offering with a focus on new product development and strategic partnerships. I am confident our new solutions will appeal to a broad range of applications within the academic, life science research, and clinical environments,” said Dr. Stuart. “I am honored to be chosen for this role, and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.”

Prior to joining Mikroscan, Dr. Stuart was vice president of global sales and marketing at Aperio Technologies, a healthcare IT company specializing in digital pathology systems for anatomic pathology. During his 8-year tenure at Aperio, Dr. Stuart developed a successful global sales strategy and led exponential year-over-year revenue growth, contributing to Aperio’s subsequent acquisition in 2012 by Leica Biosystems, a Danaher company.

In addition to Aperio, Dr. Stuart has served as an executive leader in the healthcare and life sciences markets for companies such as Ceresti Health, Definiens AG, and Tripos International. He has a global market perspective with extensive in-country tenure in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and has completed 14 years of commercial research in physics. Dr. Stuart was awarded a PhD from The University College of North Wales for his work on Ultra-High-Resolution Imaging of Langmuir Blodgett films and a BSc in Physics from London South Bank University, England.
