Providers of digital cytology scanning and AI software to create workflow solution
March 20, 2024 (Vista, CA) - Mikroscan Technologies , innovators and manufacturers of live robotic microscopy and whole-slide imaging (WSI) systems, announces that it has entered into a new partnership with AIxMed, provider of an AI-powered computational platform for cytology applications, to develop a workflow solution for cytology, starting with urine slides.
Mikroscan’s hardware technology, combined with AIxMed’s experience in cytology software and analysis, will come together to provide an end-to-end solution for research-use only cytology analysis.
“Both Mikroscan and AIxMed have demonstrated our commitment to enhancing cytology workflow efficiencies through our current offerings, so joining forces to create a new digital cytology platform together is a natural fit,” said Martin Stuart, president and CEO of Mikroscan.
Due to the shortage of cytologists and the manual nature of cell characterization, cytology is in need of new tools to improve workflow and provide quantitative and qualitative information. AI-powered computational tools have the potential to deliver these insights and allow more slides to be processed with the same workforce.
“Being able to rapidly image slides with a Mikroscan scanner optimized for cytology, and then characterize cells with our AI-powered computational platform will save time, improve accuracy, and greatly aid research in the battle against bladder cancer,” said Samuel Chen, president and CEO of AIxMed.
Still in development, the new product is currently being studied in two U.S. pilot programs.
